What is your personal 'WHY' that has led you to VEC?

As a construction professional, I have always wanted to find new solutions to existing problems. Everyone I work with — from our overseas teammates to our CEO — shares the same mindset. We will stop at nothing to provide our projects with the leanest and most efficient path forward, no matter the scale of our involvement. From the moment I started, I have felt lucky to be a part of the AEC industry's evolution through the solutions we provide. An environment that not only cultivates hard work but also rewards ingenuity is a rare occurrence in this world, and we created that space across three continents at VEC.

What is your favorite VEC customer success story and/or what is your proudest moment working on a project at VEC?

I take pride in everything I do with this company, but I find the most enjoyment in solving major problems. In the AEC industry, too often we focus on problems — but our team views them as opportunities. One of my favorite opportunities came to light in the middle of a fast-paced, large-scale laboratory project. Our team was brought on with minimal time to get our scope back on track to the project schedule. When the tension reached its peak, we had a pivotal moment with our client team who voiced their concerns about the seemingly impossible task ahead. Our leadership listened, understood, and took immediate corrective action. I shored up the team, worked tirelessly for weeks, and came out the other side on time and as one of the most helpful trade partners on the project. We turned what was viewed as an insurmountable problem into a success story, and collaborating with a client through that type of pain is something I will always see as an opportunity. Years later, the client representative we worked with still brings this up to myself and his project teams as one of the core reasons he continues to work with us.

What is your favorite memory with the VEC team?

There are too many to count. From nights at the office with my coworkers tackling projects, attending project-wide golf leagues, enjoying time with our international coworkers while they visit the United States, to having our entire US team together for company retreats. The list of incredible memories is too long to choose just one. Each moment I spend with this company reinforces my perspective on how great the professional world can be when you have the support to be yourself. We learn from our mistakes as much as we do from our success, and we play as hard as we work. I have found a home at VEC and want to bring that feeling and experience to anyone who shares our values.

What is the unique value that you bring to VEC?

I’ve had a chance over the last decade plus to engage with owners, builders, and designers on projects all over the world. One key insight is that many of the challenges are shared by each stakeholder group, but they are approaching solutions from a different perspective. I bring a unique and broad industry perspective that will help our clients work better together as effective teams across the supply chain by bringing clarity to the challenges they face and driving innovative solutions that position VEC as a trusted partner. My background in data and AI also brings a perspective on the importance of data governance and standardization, which becomes increasingly important as more of the industry adopts cutting-edge tools. My hope is to leverage this expertise to modernize and streamline VEC’s operations internally, and to deliver value to our clients to help the best build better.

What does innovation mean at VEC?

VEC was built on innovation from the start. Our proven track record of using advanced technology solutions to deliver real-world value for projects doesn’t need to be reinvented, because the strong foundation is there. But we need to evolve, and help our client evolve with us. Innovation is in our DNA, and that necessitates change and growth as technology evolves. We are in a period of unprecedented change across the industry and the world at large, and my goal is to build systems and processes that will allow us to stay ahead of the curve. The opportunity for the next phase of growth at VEC is to expand our breadth and our depth to deliver value to our clients across the entire project lifecycle.
